The course for the sold-out Copenhagen Half Marathon will be closed to traffic on Sunday, 14 September. Organisers encourage everyone to take the metro and join the running celebration.

When the Copenhagen Half Marathon takes place on Sunday, 14 September 2025, 21.097 kilometers of city streets will be closed to traffic. More than 32,000 runners are registered for the sold-out race, which will once again attract both international elite athletes and recreational runners to the Danish capital.

Traffic changes and road closures

The entire course through the city centre, Nørrebro, Østerbro, Vesterbro, and Frederiksberg will be closed to traffic from 07:00 to 15:00. Roads will reopen gradually as the field passes and will be fully open again by 15:00.

Motorists can only cross the course at designated crossing points and within specified time slots. Parking and stopping will be prohibited along large parts of the route. Illegally parked vehicles will be removed without notice at the owner’s expense.

Organisers encourage spectators to travel by bike or use public transport, where special reduced-price tickets will be available on the day.

Extended closures near start and finish areas

Several streets around the start and finish areas in Østerbro will be closed for longer periods due to event build-up and takedown:

Øster Allé Lokalbane: Friday 12 Sept 06:00 – Monday 15 Sept 16:00

Øster Allé: Friday 12 Sept 18:00 – Sunday 14 Sept 20:00

Jagtvej: Saturday 13 Sept 14:00 – Sunday 14 Sept 15:00 (between Vibenhus Runddel and Østerbrogade)

An international running event

The Copenhagen Half Marathon is recognised as one of the world’s leading half marathons. With its flat, fast course, the race attracts both elite athletes and mass participation runners.

– “With Copenhagen Half Marathon 2025, we continue to develop an event for the entire city. The race has sold out with more than 32,000 participants, and we look forward to once again showcasing Copenhagen as a strong host city for major international sporting events,” says Lars Nissen, Event Director at Sparta Athletics & Running.
