The Copenhagen Half Marathon course will be closed for traffic on Sunday 15 September. There will also be a ban on stopping and parking in several parts of the city. Hop on the metro and be part of the party, say the organisers.
Copenhagen Half Marathon is popular and completely sold out. What’s more, the half marathon has world class athletes visiting the fast and flat course through Copenhagen. So the stage is set for a blast of a running party for both the elite and the up to 30,000 other participants in the centre of a true Danish running movement.
The running party will affect traffic in large parts of Copenhagen both before the race and on race day on 15 September in the inner city, Nørrebro, Østerbro, Vesterbro and Frederiksberg.
See map with crossing points and driving routes
The entire course will be closed from 07:00 am – 15:00 pm on Sunday 15 September. However, it will be possible for motorists to cross the course at selected crossing points and during specified times.
Stopping and parking is prohibited on several stretches of the course, so drivers are advised to pay attention to street signs. Illegally parked cars may be removed at the owner’s expense.
The streets on the course will reopen as soon as all runners have passed. Road users are asked to respect the barriers until cars are allowed to enter the route again.
Pedestrians and cyclists are asked to follow instructions from officials when crossing the course for the safety of both runners and spectators.
A Copenhagen party for the whole world
This year, the Copenhagen Half Marathon has been relaunched with a new visual identity and is more popular than ever among both Danes and runners from all over the world.
The race was already sold out in the first days of January. The success also means that the organisers have the muscle to turn up the heat on the running party, which also applies to the thousands of spectators who come to experience and support the runners along the way.
‘This is not just a celebration for runners. We have participants of all levels travelling to Copenhagen because they know that the atmosphere, the course and beautiful Copenhagen provide an excellent stage to experience the city and run fast. So our big ambition is to turn up the entertainment and thereby expand this party to engage as many Copenhageners and travelling spectators as possible,’ says Dorte Vibjerg, CEO of the organiser Sparta Athletics & Running.
She encourages spectators to hop on their bikes or use the opportunity to buy cheap day tickets for public transport for as little as DKK 33. This allows you to take advantage of the many Power Zones with music and entertainment along the course to create your own party while supporting the runners.
